ECO Schools Assessors Global Footprint
Sunday, August 29, 2010

The aim of the session is to introduce you to the Schools Global Footprint resource and how it can enhance the Eco-Schools work happening in the schools you assess.

The session will:
• help you understand how the Schools Global Footprint teaching resource works
• explore how it complements your work as an Eco-Schools assessor
• give you confidence in recommending it to schools.

What is Schools Global Footprint?

Schools Global Footprint is a teaching resource that helps schools reduce their environmental impact. It does this by helping them examine, measure and reduce their Ecological and Carbon Footprints in six areas; energy, transport, waste, water, food and buildings. It is made up of a teacher’s handbook and an online footprint calculator.

It was developed by WWF Scotland and is now promoted as a key Sustainable Development Education resource on the Learning and Teaching Scotland website. Development of Schools Global Footprint is managed by the Sustainable Scotland Network who are providing this training.

How does it help with Eco-Schools?

Schools Global Footprint is a fantastic means by which schools can improve their monitoring and evaluation, the area that is often the weakest in assessments. It stores readings, provides print outs and tells them the size of their footprint, so that they have a baseline to work from.

There is no charge for this training but as per the Eco-Schools policy any no-shows will incur a £20 invoice, unless you cancel 48hrs or more before the event.
