| ILM Highland – An Overview|
ILM Highland is an independent social enterprise with charitable status. It was set up in 1994 to help people into sustainable employment - the ‘Intermediate Labour Market’ is where the initials for the company name ‘ILM’ originate. ILM Highland delivers vital services throughout the Highland Council area – including Ross and Cromarty, Sutherland, Lochaber, Skye and Lochalsh, as well as Moray.
Over the years the scope of ILM has extended beyond environmental training, work experience and employment projects to include additional services including:
• WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Recycling Service - Transform started operating in 2004. It deals with about 40,000 units annually, taking 2,250 tonnes out of the waste stream every year. We serve the Highlands of Scotland for compliance schemes, retailers and local authorities. The site’s entire operation is fully licensed to deal with all categories of WEEE under the WEEE Directive, including bulky items from bulky waste collection sites. In addition to consumer generated WEEE, ILM Highland collects and deals with business related waste electrical appliances. ILM also operates a retail outlet for the sale of refurbished and new electrical goods at its Head Office in Alness.
• Energy Service - including cavity wall and loft insulation. ILM has been insulating homes since 1995; and are an approved insulation contractor for Scottish Gas, Scottish and Southern Energy, The InstaGroup and the Energy Saving Trust.
• Housing-Related Services for older people and people with disabilities, including Care and Repair and Handyperson, which have been delivered across Ross and Cromarty and Sutherland since 1994.
Over the years ILM Highland has successfully forged strong partnerships and links across the North of Scotland. These have included local authorities, local enterprise companies, housing associations, and increasingly with the business sector.
To date, success has been achieved through an approach based on partnership working where appropriate funding has been secured for the implementation and delivery of specific projects that have now been added to ILM’s portfolio of services.
ILM Highland strives to be a self-sustaining social enterprise. In recent years, ILM has focussed on earning income and delivering services through contracting. By doing this, ILM can meet its corporate objectives in a sustainable way. ILM Highland has now been without grant funding for over four years.
